Garden, what I've tried

I love to garden!!  I used to garden when I was younger & I just loved it!  Now that I’m older, I still love to garden.  I’m married now with one boy.  So the time I’m able to spend in the garden is limited.

I’m not really a girl that likes flowers, so I grow a vegetable garden.  I suppose the best thing I like to eat out of my garden is peppers.  They can be green, red, black, yellow or orange.  Just as long as there not hot.  I don’t like hot peppers at all!

I’ve had problems with my garden though.  Stuff just doesn’t want to grow for me.  I just don’t understand it.  I’ve tried horse manure, chicken manure & even goat manure.  Nothing seems to help my garden grow.

Well this past year I discovered  a different way to feed my garden.  It called hugelkultur, this is  where you put rotting wood down & then you place your top soil on the wood.   So I dug up all my dirt this last year & put rotting wood under my soil.  Man that was a lot of work.   I’m hoping that this make my garden the best it has ever been over the next couple of years.

I mean I love to garden but when you work & work & don’t really get anything for it.  I tell you what it makes you not want to garden anymore.

My son & husband don’t like to eat the vegetables.  So if I can’t at least get a good garden out of my work for me to eat, I’m about ready to give it up all together.

Of course this last year I did get lots of different colored peppers out of my garden.  So that at least made me happy.  I also got some zucchini from the garden.   I suppose about the only other thing I got was brown beans.

So if you’re having problems with your garden maybe you should try huglkultur.  It might be the answer you’ve been looking for.  I know I had never heard of it before.Leave a comment telling me what’s your favorite thing to eat out the garden.

Building Solar Panels

I was very interested in finding ways to cut down on the amount of Electric we have to pay for every month.  So I started drying the cloths outside or hanging them in the house if the weather didn’t permit  for them to be hung outside.  I put all the electronics’ that consume vampire electric on surge protectors to make it easier to turn off the appliance’s when not in use.   I also bought the good kind of energy saving light bulbs.  All things combined only cut the bill down by about $50.

So I talked to my husband about making solar panels.  He’s like soldering is so much harder than you think.  I like I’m sure I can do it.  So I went against his advice & bought everything I needed to make a solar panel.  Which I don’t usually go against his advice, cause he’s usually right.

So I finally received all that I needed to make my solar panel with.  I had to purchase almost everything thru Ebay.  I set about building my solar panel.  I had one problem after another.   Man was my husband right soldering is not that easy. (I know I should of listened)

I had do many problems with building the solar panel that by the time I’m done with it, it would have been cheaper to buy one.  Yep you read that right I’m still not done with it.  I’m not sure I will ever get the thing done.  I’m a pretty determined person, but this solar panel takes the cake.  I’ve even got in contact with a company that’s about 30 miles from where we lived & asked them what I was doing wrong on the soldering.  I sent them pictures & they really couldn’t figure out why I’m having problems either.  So between all the problems I’ve had building the panel & the time I wasn’t able to build on it cause of family problems.  It’s been almost 1&1/2 but it’s still not done.

I’m so mad at the thing I don’t even want to try & finish it at this point.  My point is in hindsight I wish I would of never even thought about building a solar panel.

I’m making some pretty simple money online now.  So I think in a few years time after we buy a new place to live, (with my new online job) that we will buy & pay for in cash enough solar panels to cover our entire eclectic bill!  If you’d like to know how you could earn enough to do this also just click any of my link's & I will show you how!

Home Made Solar Heater

A few years back I came a across a guy that made a homemade solar heater on the side of his house.  I went to his house to see how he had made it.  I decided to talk my husband into helping me make one for the side of our house.
The guy design called for using plexiglass, but I thought we could get some old patio doors.  Take the glass apart & use them like that.  So I started looking out for some doors.  So we found some for around $200 for several doors.  This was a much better price than the $250 for single piece of the plexiglass that we would have had to pay.

We decided to put a wood frame made from treated boards around the outside to seal it up tight.  My husband & I worked on this project together & got it made for around $600.  Still a lot cheaper than buying all the plexiglass we would have needed.  My husband wanted to wait on putting the fan in it till we knew wither it would work or not.  We would have to cut 2 holes in the side of the house to bring the heat from the solar heater into the house.  So we waited till winter time to try it out.

The surface of it did get hot come winter.  But we didn’t think it was hot enough to go ahead & cut the holes into the house for it.  But I tell you what you couldn’t go hold your hand on it for a full minute without getting very hot!  The inside wall that the heat box is on, that wall also got very warm.  So this project of mine did work.  But come the next summer when we went to cut the holes we notice that the treated boards had warped & they weren’t holding a good seal anymore.   So we didn’t do anything more to the box.  It’s still on the side of the house even.

So I knew we could find a way to make something that should work.  I started looking on the internet.  Guess what, we had a solar place not to far from where we live that makes & sells solar heaters.  They also sold the plans to make your own solar heater.  So I bought the plans, spent around $1000 on building the heater.  Guess what my heater made out of the patio glass doors & not sealing very good.  It worked BETTER than the one I paid $1000 to build.   Such a waste of money!!

I’ve found something that’s not a waste of money though.  If you’d like to know what I found, click here & I will tell you what I’ve found!
